A new book aims to address a growing challenge in the world of data analytics—turning insights into tangible business value. Drive RAPPID Results From Data, written by seasoned experts Zjaén Coetzee and Karl Dinkelmann, introduces a framework designed to help organisations overcome decision paralysis and unlock growth through data-driven strategies.

The launch comes at a time when the Big Data analytics market has surged, reaching an estimated $348.21 billion in 2025. However, despite the increasing investment in analytics, an estimated 87% of data science projects fail to reach production, with even fewer delivering measurable value.

Coetzee and Dinkelmann, who first met in 2022, share a combined forty years of experience in the field. They have advised some of the world’s largest companies on data transformation, observing first-hand how many organisations struggle to translate analytics into effective decision-making.

The authors argue that many businesses fall into the trap of implementing data-led initiatives too quickly, driven by ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO) rather than a clear focus on value. The book challenges the common assumption that businesses should be “data-driven,” instead proposing that data should enable value-led decision-making.

At the heart of Drive RAPPID Results From Data is the RAPPID Value Cycle—a methodology designed to help businesses generate lasting value from their analytics initiatives. The framework encourages leaders to start by defining their end goals, ensuring that technology investments align with long-term business objectives. It also emphasises the importance of maintaining continuity in data analytics solutions, fostering collaboration across departments, and ensuring platforms are optimised for value.

The book also highlights the critical role of leadership in making data a core part of business strategy. Coetzee and Dinkelmann stress the importance of bridging the gap between executives and data professionals, particularly the Chief Data Officer (CDO) or Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO). They argue that CDOs should be as proficient in demonstrating the business impact of data as Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) are in financial decision-making.

By fostering a data-savvy executive committee, businesses can create a culture where “data is everyone’s business,” leading to more informed investment decisions and a reduced risk of project failure.

Intended for business leaders, founders, and executives, Drive RAPPID Results From Data provides practical guidance for those seeking to gain a competitive edge through data analytics. The authors believe that the decisions organisations make today will define their future success in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The book is available from 26th February 2025 on Amazon and in bookshops nationwide.
